In-Home Assistance Programs

As adults age, the need for help with daily living activities often leads to the decision whether they receive support services in their own homes or move to a care facility. There are two programs, CHOICES and OPTIONS for Community Living, that provide long-term support services for older adults and adults with physical disabilities to continue living in their homes.

  • CHOICES offers Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) to help a person live in their own home or in the community. These services assist individuals with daily living activities and allow people to work and be actively involved in their local community.
  • OPTIONS for Community Living was created to provide the elderly, as well as adults with disabilities, home- and community-based service choices. This program is available through the local Area Agencies on Aging and Disability. The services funded through the state for OPTIONS are provided to clients based on availability and level of need. They include the following:
    • Homemaker services
    • Personal care
    • Home delivered meals

To determine eligibility and to apply for waiver programs and long-term support services, you can contact the local Area Agency on Aging & Disability (AAAD).
